Ishaq Shigri, a distinguished entrepreneur and philanthropist hailing from the scenic region of Gilgit Baltistan, has left an indelible mark on the educational landscape through his instrumental role in the inception and growth of the Marafie Foundation Pakistan (MFP). Recognizing the educational disparities faced by students from Gilgit Baltistan, Shigri embarked on a mission to bridge the gap and empower the youth of his region. Witnessing the struggle of students who found it challenging to compete with their urban counterparts due to the inadequacies in local education, Ishaq Shigri took a visionary step. Under the umbrella of the Marafie Foundation Pakistan, he established hostel facilities in Karachi. These facilities served as a haven for selected students, who, upon successfully navigating a rigorous entry test, were provided the opportunity to pursue their matriculation and intermediate studies in Karachi.

By relocating to Karachi for their education, these students gained access to higher-quality learning environments. This strategic move not only equipped them with the tools necessary to compete for coveted spots at urban universities but also significantly enhanced their overall educational experience. Ishaq Shigri’s foresight in establishing these hostels under the Marafie Foundation Pakistan not only widened the access to quality higher education for students from Gilgit Baltistan but also heightened their employability prospects. Today these Marafie alumni are employed in key leadership roles within various public and private sector domains, including civil service, medicine, engineering and education.

Ishaq Shigri’s commitment to empowering the youth and addressing educational inequalities through practical initiatives has positioned him as a beacon of change and progress in Gilgit Baltistan. His tireless efforts through the Marafie Foundation Pakistan have contributed significantly to creating a more level playing field for students, ensuring that they can not only dream big but also realize those dreams through quality education and increased opportunities.
